Product Development Technology Station (PDTS) was launched in 2000 at the Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT). Originally funded by Tshumisano as the Metal Value Adding Technology Station (MVATS), the name was changed to PDTS at the end of 2003 due to the nature of the work done at the technology station. PDTS currently focuses on the development of new products, especially medical assistive devices, limited-run tooling for injection moulding, advanced sheet metal and tubing, advanced machining and tooling, and graphic design and branding; all in line with the quality management system, ISO 9001. The PDTS assists SMEs and corporate clients with development from an idea, Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 1, to Pre-commercialization or TRL 8.
